NATCHITOCHES — The Cane River Waterway Commission this week announced a $3 million improvement project to the downtown Natchitoches riverbank.
According to a news release from the agency, the project will be a collaboration between the commission and the City of Natchitoches.
This exciting enhancement will be called the Rue Beauport Riverfront project.
The commission is funding $2.5 million of the work, which will include restroom additions, enlargement and improvement of the covered pavilion and accessibility upgrades.
“The project will be a positive for boaters, as there will be bathrooms accessible to the waterway. Boaters will be able to park their boats and enjoy the river walk and covered pavilion. The pavilion will extend over the water 20’ allowing for enjoyment for special events, fishing tournaments and many other activities both from land and water,” the release states.
The project is expected to begin in January 2017 and is expected to take approximately 10 months to complete.
